Artemisia Gentileschi (July 8, 1593 – c.1656)

Except no.2 is Carivaggio.  Come on tumblr the entire point of Gentileschi’s Judith was that she was a sturdy, capable woman who was working in killing Holoferenes, as opposed to the reticent, willowy Judith traditionally depicted in representations.  Look at the difference between no 2 and no.3, that difference is important.  Carivaggio’s Judith doesn’t want to be there, Gentileschi’s Judith reflects the artist getting her revenge on the man who raped her.
